Creating a New Card using an Old Card? CAN DO!

I do this often.  I pre-make my cards and organize them into sections.  When I find one section running low, I peek into another section of cards and see if I can change them up or re-do them to create a card with a different theme or sentiment.

In my newest video, I show you how I re-do a Valentine's Card and turn it into a Birthday Card.  It's a quickie video just over 4 minutes!

Hope you enjoy!  If you've got any requests for a special type of card making or scrapbooking/crafting video, just leave a comment on either the YouTube channel or this post and I'll work on it!

Thanks so much for watching!

Cards for Cute 'Lil Love Bugs!

I have the most fun creating cards for cute little ones!  Today I have a couple cards to share that were created and published in the May 2012 issue of Scrapbook News and Review Magazine!  I can't tell you how enriched my life has been since the gang at SNR has been in my life.  I have all these fabulous creations that have brought me joy and have passed on that joy to others in my life.  Such priceless moments...

TODAY is the LAST DAY you can peep the mag for FREE!  They want you to see just how AMAZING it is!  And to top it off, there is a grand sale on subscriptions!  If you purchase a lifetime sub, proceeds go to victims of Hurricane Sandy.  How great is that!  So, with the sale going on, you're not paying much more for a lifetime sub than you would a 1 year sub!

Purchase one for yourself and think about gifting another sub to someone else!  I'll include details below for y'all!

Now let's talk about some of my Love Bug inspiration...

Love Bug

I think for this card, we had to use found objects on it.  I found that bug laying on the floor while cleaning the kid's room.  It's a game piece.  I popped it into a old bottle cap (yes, I save these along with wine corks) and topped it off with some clear lacquer and I got myself a fun crafty piece for any project!

One Year Older

And on this card, we were to use chipboard.  All I did was color some chipboard pieces with craft ink and there I had some pops of beautiful bright color to add to my card!  I raided my stash for some stickers and vellum and viola, my card was done!

BOTH cards were projects to use us my stash.  I feel so much better when I create items.  So the next time you feel some guilt mounting, raid your stash and make it right!!!!

Here is the info about the mag I copied from my newsletter:

We’re blowing open the doors for a good cause!
We want everyone to know what an awesome magazine Scrapbook News and Review Magazine is and the best way to do it is to show you.

For one weekend only, you can have unrestricted access to Scrapbook News and Review Magazine and there are two issues available for you to enjoy.

Check out how big it is. There are literally hundreds of layouts, cards, mixed media and altered art projects as well as scrapbook and card sketches, product reviews, Featured Artist and Digital Designer Spotlights...and oh gosh, too much to list.

Head on over and see for yourself. Keep in mind that this double issue doesn’t have any public submissions. This means that all content was created by our talented staffers. The reason? Because we want you to see how much you get when it’s just us. Can you imagine how large an issue is when we have other paper crafters joining in on the fun???

So, how does it work? Three easy steps.

DO NOT SKIP THIS! - LET'S HELP THOSE AFFECTED BY HURRICANE SANDY

As a business owner, I’ve never wanted to become the type of business owner where you forget the kindness of others and those who helped get you to the top. It’s been five years since we opened our doors and it’s not often that we have a sale. For one reason, I don’t think it’s fair to those who have paid full price for a subscription. It’s a yucky feeling when you buy something and then it goes on a sale a couple days later and I never want to be associated with yucky feelings.

Which is why, when I do have a sale, it’s for the right reason: to help others. The devastation that Hurricane Sandy has levied upon the East Coast is unbelievable and we want to do everything we can to help.

As a way of raising relief funds for those who have lost their homes or can’t get to their jobs and their lives have become broken and scary, I want to hold a very special sale.

Simply share some love and get some love. All of our subscription plans, except for monthly, are on sale. But here’s how you can really help! Purchase the Lifetime Subscription (already a screaming deal before the sale) and we’ll give every bit of the proceeds to help those affected by Hurricane Sandy.

The Lifetime subscription is just that. It never expires. And for a limited time, it’s roughly the same amount as a one-year subscription! That’s unlimited years of fabulous content for just a few bucks more than a year!

To purchase the Lifetime Subscription at a discounted rate, please use promotion code SANDY. To receive 25% off any term subscription (semi-annual or annual), please use promotion code SPECIAL.

Do it now before you forget! Don’t let this awesome opportunity—for you and many others—slip by! And don’t forget that you can purchase subscriptions as gifts for friends and loved ones. They’ll appreciate your kindness, too!

You can even renew your own subscription. It doesn't matter how much time you have left. It will add it on to what you have.
We sincerely thank you for being a part of the Scrapbook News and Review community and for all the love and support you’ve sent our way over the years.

P.S. Remember that yucky feeling I was talking about? If you've purchased a subscription in the last 14 days, drop me an e-mail for a special thank you gift.

where is the freaking light!

I apologize for the AWFUL photo.....ick!  I even tried to fix it up with my Photoshop Elements....this was the best it would look!  Eeeeeek!  Dang Washington skies!

But I'm over it.  I made this using the Sketchy Thursdays sketch for the Second Chance Challenge a few days ago.  I think you have till the 31st to link up to be eligible!  I'm loving those Ippity stamps by Unity....see Heidi to order!

I really distressed the edges and inked it up with some Tim Holtz distressed ink in "vintage photo"...I pulled out scrap pp from my accordion file folder that houses the scraps (which is dwindling down to nothing....yay me...and Gabe who loves to take my edging scissors and go to town on scrap paper...the clean up sucks though)!

What is this, you ask?  A sneaky.....The Pink Ninja's will have a new prompt this Wednesday...and THAT means you should get moving on the current prompt if you haven't done it yet!
I love the next prompt.....it was too fun to do!  I'd have to say this is one of my MOST FAVE layouts I've done!

AND....Ninja Christina is the Ninja Star right now....learn more about this talented girl HERE!

AND...if you haven't already seen this weeks MOTW...go back a post and you'll see who it is!  Enjoy!

I hope to go blog visiting today or tomorrow....
Have a great day!

Mo

Happy Birthday to.........

HAPPY 2ND BIRTHDAY SIMPLY OBSESSED!

Hi All! If you're hopping over from another Simply Obsessed member blog, MY WARMEST WELCOME! To my awesome blog friends who take time to visit me, THANKS FOR STOPPING BY! Hop along and get ready for some major eye candy! (Note: blog hop officially starts at 6 pm today, August 16 PST). So check back later and everyone should have their projects ready to go!

To (mostly) keep with the theme, I've created some new Birthday craftiness! The first is a layout I made using photos from my Mom's birthday last December. My sisters and I nicknamed her "Lady." I've always thought addressing someone by "lady" sounded funny. "Thanks for your help, lady." or "Hey lady, do you need help with your bags?" just sounds funny! About ten years ago, I was called "lady" for the very first time by this little boy (I was 23 at the time....it made me feel soooo old). It also cracked me up! That day, I saw my Mom and immediately started calling her "hey lady" especially when she thought being called "lady" didn't sound so bad. By the end of the day, she agreed....it sounds kinda weird. We laughed and laughed...and the name stuck!

I created this layout almost entirely using the August Obsession Kit from Simply Obsessed. I love the turquoise add on ribbon I bought!

The ghost clock is awesome and I'm loving the fabric flower and hat pins. I love kit clubs because I am able to play with scrappy awesomeness that I wouldn't normally buy or use!

I purchased these corner stamps too. I love them! I can't wait to use them on cards.

He he...those sequins make me giggle! Soooooo CUTE!

Here's another close up for your viewing pleasure!

My poor hubby is always stuck at work, so he isn't able to make it to a lot of the birthday dinners we have :( One day, he'll have a dayshift job...I hope!

Scrappy Numminess used:

textured card stock - Pinecone - Bazzil

"tailored" pp -French Couture - Lilybee

Alphabeans card stock stickers - bean brown - Jillibean Soup

die cut frame - Lilybee
turquoise lace - May Arts

white sequins - Clarice Inc.

leaf pins - Maya Road

brown velvet stitched blossom - Maya Road

ghost clock - Heidi Swapp

assorted buttons - Foof Ala

emotion clear corners stamp - Heidi Swapp

self-adhesive bling borders - jet- Heidi Swapp

Color Box fluid chalk inkpads - chestnut roan
Pigma Micorn 03 journaling pen - #49 Sakura

Now, the next couple of projects just kinda "happened". Between creating my Blog Hop layouts, I would clean my space and I came across a few scraps here and there. The following 2 cards were then fashioned out of scraps I found in arms reach! No kidding! How cool is that?

It started with my daughter handing me a stack of yellow flowers (see below). She had snipped off the points on them. They were actually part of a stack I had given HER which were reject flowers! I had run a bunch through my die-cut machine (Sizzix Big Shot) and some of the points were cut off. Instead of trashing them (guilt guilt guilt)...I immediately gave them to my daughter and said "look what I made for you"! He he.....boy am I happy I gave them to her! I love what she did with them! Isabel...my little blossoming crafter!
Since these were scraps, I can't quite remember where they came from so I'll just tell you what I remember. That green button is Making Memories, the die cut book flower is actually cut from a vintage book...I sell them on my Etsy Store...I know I keep on putting these flowers on my projects...I hope you all aren't too sick of them...I JUST CAN'T STOP USING THEM! They creep into my projects! He he! It's a phase, bear with me, one day I'll grow out of it!
At the top right hand corner, I layered a rub-on over a larger rub-on.
The solid pieces of cardstock are from Stampin' Up! (old olive and not quite navy).

Okay, on to the next card...which, in keeping with the Birthday theme, IS a birthday card. This too was created from scraps within reach. I really like the way this one turned out! I found that butterfly lying there, ALL INKED and ready to be fancied up! I just inked the edges and added the extra flower, button and tulle!

"Celebrate You" is actually a rub on.

That ticket stub looking piece that says "tru frnd" is actually one of the hostess stamp sets in the Stampin' Up! catalog. It's a set of 6 stamps (called "Admit It") which you can only earn as a Hostess. Go HERE for information on being a Hostess. Don't live near Bothell, Washington? No problem, contact me and we can talk about a Virtual Catalog Party!

And my final project to share was created using Diana's sketch at Sketchy Thursdays! This girl's sketchin' skills are ROCKIN'! Every week, I'm drawn to the sketch! Sometimes, I'm not able to get time to create, but I peek at it and always feel inspired! FYI, she's having a DT Call! So, if you're interested, apply! The current sketch challenge is going until end of day Wednesday, so if you wanna participate, create a layout using the sketch below and go to Diana's blog and link up! The winner gets a RAK! Diana has been awesome with supporting Etsy Shops, so if you would like to contribute a RAK, I'm sure she would love to hear from you as well!

Here's my layout!

This is a layout of photos from my 9th Birthday in 1985. Three of my childhood friends were in the photos: Mary Lou, Jeanette, and Christy. We spent the day at Chuck E Cheese. This was one of my most memorable birthday parties, thanks to my Mom and Dad.

Here's the sketch:

I got to bust out my July Obsession Kit from Simply Obsessed! LOVE IT! Lovin' the Lime Rickey!
The day I took the pictures, it was overcast. I did my best with Photoshop....but it's still a little dim. Today, it's sunny out....silly Washington weather!

I used bits and pieces off some pp I had (Sparrow by Jenni Bowlin). I liked how it looked aged (faux vintage...he he)!

Here's another one of my vintage die cut flowers from MoMoStamper Store! NOT faux vintage! I used a real vintage books to make them. They are a mix of a botany book and a vintage novel.

Another fun angle. I'm practicing my PICTURING skillz! I'm going to earn the right to buy one of those nice camera's...by golly...followed closely by earning the money...or getting the DH to buy it for my bday next March!
For those of you that would like the supply list:
Most items used were from my July Obsession Kit - Lime Rickey - from SimplyObsessed.com

A Card......and a WINNER!

I've got a TON of scraps to use! I whipped this one up QUICK! Even the card base was taken from my scrap pile! The patterned paper came from my June Kit from Vintage Plum. I just LOVE this paper from October Afternoon called Cherry Hill - New Apron. Both sides are GORGEOUS!

This is a standard 4 1/4" x 5 1/2" card. I tied a piece of scrap twine I had around the patterned piece and secured the knot with a glue dot so it wouldn't shift. I added some foam squares to the back to pop it up (because the twine is pretty thick). The die cut sticker is from my Cosmo Cricket - Early Bird Collection stash! I LOVE this collection! Actually, I just love Cosmo Cricket ANYTHING!

In the end, I felt my card needed some finishing so I faux stitched with my FAVE Signo Gel Pen! Then I got the feeling....YOU KNOW....that "I'm finished" feeling! Ta-DAH!

I was supposed to add this card to my red, white and blue themed post for the SNR (Scrapbook News & Review) blog hop....but I honestly was too lazy to edit photos, load to blogger and type....so....I decided to save some goodies for future blogging posts!!!!

Speaking of the blog hop!............

Thank you everyone who visited my blog during the SNR blog hop! It was fun! I visited all of them myself (NINETY PLUS)! I did have a tiny little giveaway and a winner! I chose the winner randomly from Random.Org by numbering the comments from 1 to 32 in the order they were made. So.....the winner of my Lady Bird clone is Suzann!

Love that layout!

Congratulations Suzann! I will be sending my beautiful Lady Bird to you real soon! Thanks for entering everyone!

What did you DO on your July 4th weekend???? For me, what happenned was TOTALLY unplanned but on Saturday my Dad came over to take some measurements to complete the last bit of my backyard fence! It didn't have a gate and so my poor kiddies weren't allowed out there without me. Anyway......I'm embarrassed to admit....I hadn't weeded for a good YEAR and there were a TON of weeds! I started pulling up a few...and that snowballed and next thing you know my mom joins in....followed by my 6 year old, my 2 year old, my Dad and Hubby....and 3 hours later we've even hacked into the poorly maintained bushes I had in the back. We're not done...but will be digging the roots up. Wow! What a feeling of relief! Once the rest of the fence is completed we can celebrate the rest of this summer by hanging out in the back yard! I'm even inspired to throw a BBQ so I can invite my old college buddies and new friends! Hopefully when the fence is complete, I'll feel safer letting my kids run around there and we'll spend time hanging out and keeping the area nice and clean!

To the Graduate!

Hello my blogging buddies! I visited the Dream Girls Challenge Blog this week! Wow, that place is super fun!

I used the Sketch Challenge #29: Sketch It Card to make a card for my baby sister who is graduating from college this week! My how time flies!

This was taken last summer. The one with the cheesy fake smile is me (I'm the eldest). Emmy is the middle sister (in the picture and literally) and Krystal is the one all the way to your right (she's the one graduating)! He he....my Belly Bel is the one in the back sneaking in the pic...she's such a ham!
Yay Krys! Congratulations!

I really liked that quote. It was soooooo perfect for this occasion!

Tear it up!

I'm kinda like a pack rat! It has taken years to really change this habit of mine.....or maybe just moving out of my parent's home and realizing I don't have anywhere to put all this stuff! I really try to think "Do I REALLY need to keep this?" and most of the time I think "no" and throw whatever it is away, give it to someone else who could make better use of it, or donate it! And then I forget about it and never look back!

So when I scrap, I've got my recycling bin next to me and I start chucking stuff in there. I keep going with my scrapping and I'll catch a glimpse of a piece of paper in the bin and go...."Oh!" and fish it back out. I find that I usually rescue torn pieces.....like these! I made some cards out of em!

Once again, I used one of my favorite sets "A Beautiful Thing" by Stampin' Up! How sweet? Right? I mean, what would your life really be without certain people in it????? So tell them how thankful you are!

I'm always thankful for the life I have and the love in it. Two very major events in my life have made me more aware that any minute, life can change...any minute you can leave this world. The first was a major car accident where I remember thinking (what I thought was my last thought before dying) "I'm going to die...it's over." I held my breath all the while feeling some power cradling me....keeping me safe. And...I walked away from a roll over accident on the freeway....my car crashed against a barrier. I still don't know how I walked away...I just figured, "There must be something I've yet to do in this world since I'm still in it."

Another one of my worse fears ALSO happened a few years ago. At the age of 2, my daughter fell out of a second story window onto concrete. Not a day goes by that I first cringe at the thought of what my life would be like without her and I say a daily prayer for every day I have with my family. She's 6 now and in good health. She's got a scar right above her right eye from the fall. It's a reminder to me to be thankful. And I am. I still shiver as I think of that day.

Okay, sorry bout that! I just started typing and before you know it, I've gone and told you all that crazy stuff! Well, on to brighter things! Now, I'll continue...with MORE cool photos!

Here's is the image of the rest of the stamp set. Sooooo cute! Love it love it love it!

The patterned paper came from this nummy paper pack by Me and My Big Ideas!

Here's a cool stamp for you Kitty Kat lovers!

I adore this set...probably because of the cheesy humor...that's MY kinda humor!

These cards all were matchy matchy! Simple, quick and all from scraps!

Once again, I used a stamp from the "For a Friend" set by Stampin' Up! which is retired. Like it? Want it? Try searching Ebay!

Okeee Pokey! If you haven't guessed, one of my goals for 2009 is to use up some of my sCRAPs! So break into your stash....if it's been sitting there for awhile, you REALLY need o put some of them to use! Spend a day making a buncha cards and keep them in a box to give when an occasion pops up! Tuck some envelopes in that box as well as stamps.....and a pen! You have no excuse NOT to send your girlfriend that Birthday card!
